| Dress Code | |
| Dress Code (All) | Fourth Baptist Christian School desires that its students dress and conduct themselves in a manner that is pleasing to God. Thus, a student's dress and physical appearance are very important since it tends to reflect the inner thoughts of the heart. Our dress standards are based on the following five categories.
| 1. |
Modesty: |
Is it modest, chaste, decent, observing Biblical proprieties? |
| 2. |
Testimony: |
Does it honor God? Does my appearance point to Christ and not draw attention to me? |
| 3. |
Appropriateness: |
Is it appropriate for the occasion? |
| 4. |
Deference: |
Voluntarily restricting personal tastes/rights for the sake of the larger group and the testimony of Christ. |
| 5. |
Safety: |
Some of the dress standards are based simply on safety and uniformity. |
While most of us would agree that these five categories allow some latitude, we would also agree that they do not allow the Christian's total abandonment to any fashion, style, or fad that becomes "popular" for a particular time. Conscience, under the control of the Holy Spirit, will play a vital part here. (". . . whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God." I Cor. 10:31) However, choosing to attend Fourth Baptist Christian School implies an agreement with the manner in which these five principles are understood and applied by the faculty and administration.
It is not intended that FBCS students dress expensively. However, all students are to come to school and leave school dressed neatly, appropriately and according to the school dress code. Modesty is the prevailing principle (along with common sense) in the matter of dress and standards. Good grooming and clean appearance enhance a student's entire learning process, help build self esteem, and present a good testimony. Each student and staff member shares the responsibility of developing and exhibiting a school spirit that honors our Lord Jesus Christ and upholds the standards of the school. Parents are expected to exercise wisdom in their choices of attire for school days and school functions and to actively monitor their student?s appearance. Should a student arrive at school in violation of the dress code, he or she will report to the school office and remain there until proper attire is secured. Parents will be called to bring in appropriate clothing so the student may return to class. All class periods missed for this reason are considered unexcused. Repeated disregard for the dress standard is cause for further disciplinary action. All questions and decisions as to appropriateness will be determined by the administration. Unless an exception is noted, guidelines apply to students of all ages.

| Dress Code (Boys) |
1. Pants: Young men in grades 6-12 are to wear solid color pants or dress pants that fit properly, are clean, and in good condition. Denims, frayed or torn pants, excessively long or baggy pants, athletic or wind pants, drawstring or elastic waist pants are not acceptable. Plain chino-style pants in classic colors are recommended. Conservative cargo style pants are acceptable. Pants are to be worn at the waist, not the hips. Belts are to be kept completely in the belt loops, and nothing is to hang out of the pockets. (Elementary Exceptions: Elementary boys in K-5th grade may wear solid color denim pants other than blue jeans. Non-athletic pants with elastic waistbands are also allowed on little boys.)
2. Shirts: Young men in grades 6-12 will wear shirts with collars. Examples are polo shirts, rugby shirts, turtlenecks, sport shirts or dress shirts. Shirts should not have logos, words or symbols except for a small manufacturer's logo or symbol (usually on the left pocket area). If extra warmth is desired during any portion of the school day, neat sweaters and plain sweatshirts or polar fleece may be worn in the classroom over a shirt provided they fit properly, are free of writing and pictures, and are not hooded. Shirts must be tucked in unless they are square-cut along the waist and do not extend below the hips. Only the top button of shirts may be unbuttoned. Undershirts and turtlenecks are to be visible only at the neck with no writing visible. (Elementary Exceptions: K-5th grade boys are not required to wear collared shirts, but the shirts must not be undershirts or just colored T-shirts with pockets.)
