Event Recap: Warrior Alumni Weekend Jan. 20-21, 2011 We had a good group of Alumni present for Friday's Homecoming games. Thanks for your support! The Varsity Girls & Boys teams both won their games. Go Warriors! The Alumni in attendance were entered into a drawing and many received books from Bethany House Publishers as awards. At half-time of the boys' game, there was a free-throw shooting contest and Josh Henderson '09 and Tara Zschokke '11 won gift certificates for winning their respective contests. Our Alumni Brunch this past Saturday morning was a wonderful time. A group of nearly 300 alumni, present and former faculty, current students and their families, and friends of FBCS all gathered for a special time in the FBCS gymnasium. The FBCS Platinum Handbell group performed a couple of songs to start off the morning. As we enjoyed our delicious brunch, Mr. Hodak gave out lots of prizes (random ticket drawings) including more Christian books and gift certificates for all kinds of restaurants and stores. While this was going on, the silent auction table was also available. Items up for bid included an autographed print from the Minnesota Twins, a gift card to Cabela's, and a night's stay at the new Residence Inn in Plymouth. Then we heard Mr. Alan Hodak give a State of the School Address, where we heard measurable standards attesting to the quality of our school, including our high student achievement scores. Enrollment is up for the second year in a row, and we are grateful for the Lord's provision. Following that, an alumni men's ensemble performed a couple of fun numbers by Peter Schichele. We enjoyed hearing from Col. Jim Meisinger as he reminisced about his days as an FBCS student and challenged the group to continue to support the school in the days ahead, both by organizing together as an Alumni association, giving referrals to the school (talk it up!), and lending financial support to the Karen Burns Scholarship Fund. More information about Col. Meisinger may be found in the Alumni VIP issues #7 & #8. ALUMNI VIP NEWSLETTERS (click here to see full list) We are so thankful for everyone who came and a special thanks to those who contributed to our Karen Burns Scholarship Fund. Our dream is to grow this fund to a sizable amount where we can set it up as an endowment and give scholarships from the interest year after year. You can see more details about this event here: We are looking forward to making this an annual event, and our hope is that many Alumni will put in on their calendar year after year to come, have fun and fellowship with classmates and former faculty, and give support our school. |
